My parents are (afaik) lactose tolerant but I have lactose intolerance.
It came up in the age of 18/19. I still eat milk products but not too much and mild (mostly in coffee or with flakes) from time to time.
The symptoms are if there are any not too strong. But to drink f.e. more than 1/4 l milk is really nothing for me...
In fact milk is not that healthy or necessary, at least in modern societies. But if we think about situations in which actually was no food left than milk (especially with enough Calcium, fat, etc.) its a serious problem.
We have to think about bottlenecks in certain regions of Europe imo.
BTW for growth lactose tolerance is not important because you are if healthy always tolerant until adulthood.
For children milk is always good.
Of course there is an extreme pathological form of lactose intolerance from birth on.
