Israel was not a country back then nor was Palestine. And his family were spaniards living in Morocco. So Spanish is closest to his nationality. He is descended from Spaniards, not Moroccans or Palestinians. "Rav Chaim Yosef David Azulai, the son of Rav Refael Yitzchak Zarchia Azulai, was born in 5384 in Yerushalayim. He descended from an illustrious family that had lived in Spain until the Expulsion. It then moved to the Moroccan city of Fez, and eventually to Chevron." www.famousrabbis.com/chida.htm
