where does this obsession come from? I mean the tendency to see a lot of "mongoloid" traits in central and east european people....

Maybe when some of us look in the mirror and see these peculiar little folds over the inner corners of our eyes...

Garófano is an Italian name, Piero. Also, the opposite of a Catalan surname is not a Spanish surname, but a Castillian, Galician, Basque, etc one. Be brave and take a look at your passport or Personal ID. What does it say? I wager Spain.

Ms. Garofano has big, rounded eyes, no folds.

She looks mainly Oriental Alpine(perhaps some Mediterranean admixture) . I'll go with Lada's response.

Try it again It's clear that the Catalans aren't ethnically Spanish despite the political pressure of the Spanish government since three hundred years ago.

I think that some of the Protomorph ("Cromagnid", "UP" or whatever you preferr to call it) features evident i some areas in the eastern part of Europe are somtimes (by purpose?) confused with Mongolid features. However this is hardly the case since the majority of western Mongolid groups have much lower heads than Europid groups in the eastern half of Europe.

Very pedomorphic, and therefore difficult to classify. I would say she is basically a generalized Alpinid with a fair amount of Med + a "Neo-Danubian" or Osteuropid-inspired nose and eye region (and cheekbones, perhaps over-emphasized by rouge in some of the photos).
