But that's a different variant. In the other kind there's no long stiff thing before the mouthpiece, so you hold it like this:

Is the one you posted some kind of North African version? Because all i've seen in Lebanon are like the ones i posted.

Lebanon/Syria have Syrian Style hoses which are cheap and fake leather with a wood or metal mouth peice with just a grip, the bowl of the argillah is also diffrent it is male instead of female

Egypt/Jordan/Israel have Egyptian style house, long cloth covered houses with a long wooden grip all intractly designed, and the bowl of the argilah is Female

Iranian argillahs have Syrian style houses always with wood tip, a laarge metal bowl (they put coal directly on it no foil or screen) and smoke this nasty tar looking shit

Turkish argillahs are often made completley out of metal including the vase, most old ones are engraved in ottomon turkish(arab alphabet),they use Egyptian style bowls

Indian Argillahs are Skinny metal (coper/bronze) vases with built in skinny hoses, they are ugly but they are the origional argilah

BTW "syrian" hoses arent syrian at all they where introduced by chineese who make their cheap mass produced hookahs(often actually of good quality), syrians took a liking to the hose, if u look at pics of hookas in syria from a long tyme ago(50 years or so) they used Jordanian Style Sheikh hoses, which are like the egyptian but instead of having those hair scrungy things they have poofy balls

i own several syrian hoses and 1 egyptian, the syrians have a cleaner taste the egyptians are musky, probably because it uses cloth instead of leather/plastic
