.. asians (I mean eastern asians here) are supposedly good at math? (Ex. Pacific rim countries focus a lot on academic achievement in mathematical/scientific)
I mean, do you think this stereotype is justified? And if this stereotype has at least a grain of truth, is there any reason for it? For example was there something that predisposed the early mongoloids to be good at visual/mathematical things? (This is probably a far-fetched scenario but I'm just wondering) such as requiring a detail-oriented precision for hunting on the tundra?
I'm just curious about whether or not the stereotype of the japanese math geek has any solid grounding? I've noticed a trend that disproportional numbers of east asians students pursue maths/sciences at my school. I don't know if its a cultural thing or not?

Are you a guy or girl? If guy, then that's pretty annoying. Sorry.

I'm just wondering, aside from maybe cultural aspects, is there at least any (even if a small part) possible genetic aspects of it?
Some traits such as personality may be a combination of genes and cultural upbringing. I'm just curious if the East Asians' students academic pursuit have any genetic factors apart from culture.
To put my question in other words "Are they (stereotypically) good at these maths and sciences because they were raised in a culture that promotes that? Or is there some genetic factor that makes them a little bit predisposed to these academic fields that makes them want to pursue them in the first place? Or perhaps both? "
And yes, I am a male.

has some study been made on amerindians to see if they are also better at maths? They have IQ's of around 90.. from what I read somewhere, slthough Amazonians in anew stuy\dy have a natural ability of complex geometry, which is amazing.

As an example, myself personally as a mongoloid, I don't do too bad in maths, but I'm not particularly interested in them. But I do have a feeling that when I was young I was kind of good at maths (even without parental pressures)

I do think that East Asians are better at math. They are filling up the gifted programs in some areas. But the strange thing is that their gift at math doesn't mean that they are gifted in other domains. They can be very average at everything else. We would prefer it if you addressed us not as "they" but "you people".
