But the question is where does this disdain come from?
Both groups, generally, have different habits that show itself in income level, business ownership, and owning property.
During the 1920s Jamaican immigrants were called "Black Jews" by African- Americans because of their perceived greediness. They tended to own property at a higher rate than their African- American neighbors and many of them were landlords. So its not surprising that resentment existed. This has been a common trend between these two groups. It may be due to selective immigration or it may not. Although, it should be noted that in the past decade there has been some less than desirable Jamaican immigrants.

But the question is where does this disdain come from? Why do Jamaicans think they are better than Trinis and Dominicans (Commonwealth), AND AA's? I don't know. My uncle looks down on short people. I don't have a clue about that, either. No pun?

I don't know the relationship between Jamaicans and immigrants from Trinidad, or who successful immigrants of Trinidad are... with regards to Dominicans it could be the same reason that Puerto Ricans dislike Domincians. They come across as uncouth, which is typical of immigrants lacking education, and since they are recent immigrants Puerto Ricans have an economic leg up, which puts them in a position to look down on their neighbors... although, Puerto Ricans were in that same position years ago. Every immigrant group is looked at with disdain by people already settled since the differences in economics are visible. -------------- I just wanted to add a bit more:
An ethnic group with a generally better economic position always tends to look down on a group that tends to be of a poorer economic position. Booker T. Washington understood this and that's why he didn't go down the same road as Du Bois by pushing for political rights but rather trying to teach those habits that lead to economic success. It's not easy to look down on a man who owns property and/or business because its a clear sign of the person's ability. Well... it's difficult to look down on successful people unless they make up an excuse for that person's success.... the excuse is often lame.
A problem that does come up at times is when a person of an ethnicity that is generally economically successful but who isn't successful himself/herself begins to put on airs when around people who come from groups that are generally less successful. This was I call living through others. That the members of a group tend to be successful doesn't automatically give someone of the same ethnicity who is less successful a reason to be proud of himself since they haven't achieved anything. But yet they don't see it like that since tehy're weak minded to begin with and will be pricks towards others.

Jamaicans have a high rate of owning businesses in African- American communities and they're not liked either and for the same reasons. Jamaicans are disliked for their general disdain for other W.I.'s and AA's. We don't have many Jamaicans where i stay and the very few that are here get along well with AAs.

Reading this thread made me realize that I was trying to justify to myself unconcious prejudices I have against Jamaicans, mainly due to my mother's family. From them, I know Jamaicans as arrogant, loud, burgandy weave-wearing cheats. My grandfather said he wouldn't hire them to clean his garage. And no Jamaican I've met was in a better position than my mother's family. I noticed it (well, I assumed so based on the limited information in your posts) but I didn't feel I should say anything since it was an assumption. I have my own prejudices that I try to keep in check. Most everyone does but not everyone attempts to keep themselves in check. I like to think I'm successful
