have you ever compared modern day clan based somalia to feudal japan? Japan was split into many clans similar to the way Somalia is today - all spoke the same language, had the same religion, looked the same, they were just all fragmented into many clans with family names (or something like that) - i think this is very similar to somalia today, where the population is very homogenous, although it is split into many rival clans. Maybe one day all these clans will unite and form a rich and technologically advanced somalia, and its children will learn about its past, about the clan structure etc that used to dominate.

Interesting, i never knew this about Japan.
actually the majority of younger somalis are not that obsessed with clan affinity say such as the elder ones who are totally poisoned by this. So the clan thing i believe even though strong today is starting gradually to be dismantled.

I'm not quite sure one can equal a daimijo with a qabiil and a shogun with a warlord. I mean it's a bit far fetched, but the comparison is pretty interesting nontheless. Besides, the feudal wars went on for centuries, I don't see Somalia's civil conflicts lasting that long.
