I heard that in Sao Paulo,Brazil the Japanese are way overrepresented in their universities in proportion to their actual population in the city.Japanese Brazilians make up 10% of Sao Paulo's population yet they makeup over a quarter of the student body at the University of Sao Paulo. The Japs sure value education.Other NonWhites could learn a thing or 2 from the Japs especially Blacks.

I'd like to visit Japan (and hopefully not get fingered in my butt unless it's some hot Japanese man doing it ;D), but I wouldn't want to live there.
Are the Chinese more open to foreigners living in China than the Japanese?

ive heard all this stuff about how japanese will be nice to your face because your western and theyll treat yo uwith so much respect etc but theyll never ever ever EVER lol open up to you and become a 'real freind' say like one you could make in the US or in Europe. despite this i have met many japanese people who aren't like this at all so i'm sure its just come from one stereotype thats been bigged up to include the whole population - i hung out with my japanese friend and her friends from tokyo a few weeks ago and they all seemed like regular 19 year olds, and they actually had a great sense of humour and one of them was hiding a 'big secret' (that she was getting married) from her friends that i accidentaly revealed lol.....but yeah they (well at least the ones ive met) seem to just be average people, maybe the younger generation who have travelled a bit are a bit more 'normal' lol

Currently the Japanese are the best educated ethnic group in the US, closely followed by Poles.

Well, Metro, I wouldn't venture over to that enchanted isle looking to hook up. The Japanese are very ethno-centric (despite being jealous of North Americans and Europeans) and fairly homophobic. I thought Japan was quite relaxed about homosexuality, as some of my friends who are Japanese said that people don't really mind over there. Meh, maybe they were wrong. I know about the ethno-centrism, they're a pretty closed people and are pretty anxious of foreigners right? I'm not sure how I'll handle the whole 'gaijin! gaijin!' concept, but I still want to go there all the same. And to the person that said 'Japan is too expensive' - I don't think it'll be much of a problem since the UK is the second most expensive place to live in the world!

I read a report about competitive Japanese mothers fellating their sons so they could get better grades at school. Letting off steam, you know, so they can concentrate on their study. I think someone mentioned that on another related thread.

It was an actual article in an English language Japanese webzine for expatriates. It looked serious enough, you never know. I´ll try to google that up. In any case, I agree that fellating the teachers should work much better toward improving your son´s grades. ;D
