There is even a Gay chamber of commerce in San Francisco. If Gay was a race than it would be the second largest minority group in San Francisco being second only to Asians but at the same time outnumbering Blacks.

They aren't going to ask the Americans many questions because they already think we are too self involved. They will prefer to think of us in terms of stereotypes. But of course, after this post they will want to prove me wrong and a bunch of questions will ensue... I don't know. I think that different people have different ideas about Americans. Of course, some people will continue to stereotype us as being self-absorbed or whatever, which is why I wanted a cross section of Americans to post in this thread. My main concern is what they think about *me*, Jack Reed. ;-)

Is it true that you're all fast shooting cowboys and that you start a gay-hunt guided by your local priest every saturday? Brother, we don't need to hunt 'em. They're all over the place.

it is impossible to stereotype americans because they are all so different, usa could easily be 3 or 4 different countries.

how is the mexican american war, the spanish american war, the creation of the repulic of texas, all the manifest destiny stuff taught in USA schools nowadays? I'm an old geezer of 33(mistakenly 28 on my profile), and I took one American history course in high school. It was an accelerated course that went from the arrival of the Native Americans to the first Bush administration in a short period of time. The Mexican War and the Spanish-American War were taught in very neutral ways that highlighted just the main facts. There was a recent movie about the Alamo that bombed at the box office.

Yeah its hard to imagine that New York and Texas for example are part of the same country when they are so different from each other culturally just like in Brazil a state like Rio Grande Do Sul is so culturally different from Bahia for example but thats what you get with countries that have a population thats in the 3 digit millions you have alot of variety and diversity in countries with very large populations.

it is impossible to stereotype americans because they are all so different, usa could easily be 3 or 4 different countries. That's true. You could also have three or four different countries in those three or four different countries. For example, the northern region of the South is different than the southern region, which has even more different regions. For example, the Appalachian border region is different than Dixie in many ways. Florida and Louisiana have different cultures than Georgia. Texas is like a country unto itself. ;-) You even have very different regions within the same state, like Virginia.

Dirty south is hip hop slang for the South. That's what I thought. Didn't that term start around the time that "Tennessee" was on the radio?
