hey Berter, a gma inu ! Thanks to you, everybody knows that Berbers exist now, and they hate them ! héhé. Tu est un fin stratège, je me suis rendu antipathique aux yeux de beaucoup de gens dans ma courte de vie, mais toi tu es la crême de la crême, you play in an another ligue, gma. J'aime ton style, tu as raison.
Il y a un proverbe chez moi qui dit : "mani tkka l3fiyt s ufarnu abla gh imi nns !" this is a proverbe used to describe persons who are known for the wickedness of their words...
...well, back to the subject brought by Tautamo :
1. the Libyco-Berber/Punic scipts similarities are limited (6 to 7 letters among 24 or 25 letters.)
plus, general aspect (and direction) of the two alphabets is different.
2. Libyco-Berber alphabet is far more ancient than scholars usually believed and goes back to a period when phoenician-punic influence in North Africa was still limited.
3. the most ancient Libyco-Berber inscriptions are located in remoted areas (High Atlas, and saharian areas) areas which weren't easily accessible to Phoenician influence.
4. the reason why there is a concentration of Libyco-Berber inscriptions in areas where there was a strong Punic implantation could be explained simply by an influence in the "use" of script (development of epitaph practice.)
5. the general Libyco-Berber script shapes corresponds to the geometrical symbols of pre-historical times in North African areas and to figurative design present in the rural Berber handicraft and Art (tapestry, jewelry, tattoos, etc.)
6. the lexical root for "write/script" in Berber is R(w) : this is Berber and also Pan-Berber, and results from a semantic evolution from a more ancient meaning, prior to the use of script (to engrave, to cut, to mark.)
7. there is also any intermediate shape between Punic ans Berber scripts : the two alphabets coexists together, differentiated, from the beginning. A borrowing from Phoenician Alphabet imply intermediate stage ans adjustments between the two scripts.
then it is difficult to explain the apparition of Libyco-Berber scripts scrictly by the direct borrowing from Phoenician script, because emergence of Berber script refers to socio-culturel dynamics which is intern to Berber society.
