I got mine out in December of 2004. I had three wisdom teeth. My experience was that the first few days, you feel pretty good, since the steroids they give you keep the pain away for about that amount of time. After that, it starts to hurt a bit, but you can keep it at bay with the Percocet they give you. The only time it really hurts with that in mind is when you wake up, since sleep usually lasts longer than the effect from a dosage of Percocet. Anyway, I'd suggest getting it done during a time in which you have as little to do as possible, since you will need a lot of rest and relaxation for about a week or so after the teeth have been removed.

I actually have only 3 visible, but I assume the fouth is not out. two of them are pretty out, and they dont hurt at all, but they are crowding my straight teeth so you didn't have a problem with getting three at once? people tell me it's better to take out two by two, so I can eat and stuff

I ate mostly soft foods like applesauce, yogurt, and hummus during recovery. It wasn't much of a problem for me. I'm personally glad that I got it all over with at once.

you don't have to wait for them to come out in order to get them pulled. it depends on the angle they grow I think.
if they are pushing on the other teeth, then you have to get them out early..

I think to get all four teeth out at once is no very good idea ;D. I had four teeth of wisdom, now they are all out, because they pushed on other teeth. First two were got out at once. Then I couldn't eat for week, only soft foods, and one side of my face was pretty puffy-no good look. And it hurt, for few days. Three of my teeth went out very easy, but fourth took half of hour to get it out because of deep hooky root. But its individual, I wish you good luck

Mine were fully in at 20. They began growing when I was 17 and I started "teething". I felt like a miserable baby gnawing on pens and anything firm to relieve pressure.

Had three taken out when I was 17. Unfortunately I was under a local anesthetic so I could feel them working in my mouth. Not painful, but very uncomfortable. But, seeing as they were just breaking the gumline, I didn't really care since I wanted them taken out.

I'm curious if there have been any studies on frequencies of third molar impaction based on race or ethnicity.

I had all four of them removed when I was 18. I was scared about the idea of it (they were impacted also). My main memory of it was the drugged-out bliss for days afterwards. They gave me synthetic opiate pills and I laid on the couch for several days very happy indeed. After the healing, I noticed that my facial shape had changed for the better because the four missing teeth had subtly made my jaw look different.

Also, during the healing period, they instructed me to rinse the mouth with warm salt water several times a day. It promotes healing and helps prevent infection.
