"I assume you weren't educated in Brazil, but yet, you say you know what they teach in brazilian history books (even more than more than me or Necronomicom who were educated here).
How's that possible?"
I've read articles in the page 2 of the Diário de Notícias newspaper (the Portuguese newspaper which is also sold in a few Brazilian cities) written by Brazilians that backed what I have been saying (Portuguese killing the Indians, Portuguese destroying the Atlantic forests, Portuguese exploiting/pimping Brazil, etc etc etc). Those same articles were obviously refuted by other readers. Prior to the 500 years' celebration of the discovery of Brazil, we were also able to watch several tv reports about the relation between the two countries and how some of the things that aren't necessarily true have been twisted by the school books.
"And you know 'what you've heard from the mouth of some brazilians'
What the f*ck is that supposed to mean???
Maybe that a few Brazilians with a hatred for Portugal (probably the very same jerks that emigrate to europe looking for money) told you that 'Portuguese colonization was bad' and you took it a proven fact that represents the opinons of all of Brazil's population?"
It is supposed to mean what it means. My previous post ended up sounding more aggressive than what I intended, and for that I apologise. I didn't say (or mean to say) that those opinions reflected the whole Brazilian population, but they do reflect the opinions of a particular type of Brazilian (the type that is ashamed of being Brazilian and wished he had been born an American).
"And last, but surely not least:
'I KNOW THE TRUTH.'
So, basicaly, everyone else is wrong, and YOU, and only YOU, the almighty bearer of the sacred truth is right.
don't you think you're crossing the line here? Have you ever heard of megalomania?"
No, not everyone else is wrong - just the people that like to single out the Portuguese colonization when it wasn't any different from what happened in ALL the Spanish colonies, in ALL the Dutch colonies and in many of the French and English colonies.
"if you don't have any patience to have a civilized discussion with more than one point of view, don't bother getting into it."
"I didn't say it was better or worse. But you try to make it sound better. And I wish we weren't so tolerant and easy-going, 'cause that surely held us back. Brazilian people are so tolerant that even living conditions below the poverty line, they still don't stand up for themselves. And if we weren't so tolerant, surely there wouldn't be as much race mixing as there was."
That's not tolerance - that's lack of ambition. Tolerance is respecting one's differences. Race mixing is not a bad thing (at least not in the New World).
"So was Portugal a couple of centuries back. Once you were also one of the richest and most promising countries in the world.
What are you trying to prove with that?"
We were never rich. What happened? English and Dutch piracy, Spanish imperialism, Dutch imperialsm, English imperialism, an earthquake, the French invasions
that completely destroyed a country, and the loss of our only source of revenue (Brazil) thanks to the interference of the English. In the 20th century, we ended up fighting against a bunch of terrorists/freedom fighters (depends on how you see the picture) that were sponsored and armed simultaneously by the USA, by USSR and by China.
"I don't think that British and French are superior, neither I admire them more than I admire Portugal. Don't go putting words in my mouth. I just pointed that you prefered to mention the worst developed colonies of those countries to make Portugal look better.
And I don't need to go that far to see a 'real shithole' or a 'dump'. Right here in the very city I live, in the most expensive and fancy neighborhoods there are favelas that are just like that."
I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about the type of Brazilian "elite" I already mentioned.
"Cultural and ethinc unity???
Have you ever seen any folklore manifestation from the northeast of brazil? And what about from the south? How 'united' is that?
There's no similarity at all. Not more than the similarities between peruvian and argentinian folklore."
And northern Portugal is culturally the same as Galicia. That doesn't change the fact that the northern Portuguese are Portuguese and the Galicians are Spaniards. Anyway, you are a Brazilian and you have your opinion. I must respect it even though I do not agree with it.
"I'm glad you like brazilian mestizas. You seem like you could use one yourself. Go get one of the many that live as slave in Lisbon and use her well, 'cause you most definetely need to get laid.
Actually, if you like them so much, you could have them ALL in your country. And don't forget to take the negroes as well."
? Talking about civilized discussions...
"Loosen up dude! You seem just as much of a narrow-minded/tight ass as Artur Kemp (whom you love to attack).
Both of you tend to distort things to make them fit your supreme truth. I tend to be very friendly with Portuguese people, but in your case that wasn't possible."
Whatever. I am not here to make friends.
