There is a phase utmost importance in the historical evolution of the southern indoeuropean societies; It does correspond to a maturation stage in the long process of groping in the philosophical and political domains .
1. In Politcs
Classical Greeks developed democracy as an efficient system ensuring the involvment of the whole community in solving Group-problems and major decisions making.
Codification of life affairs and generalisation of the use of laws was also a positive and great add from Romans.
2. In Military Matters
Greeks and Romans, and in a lesser extent Persians, realised the importance discipline and order in Battles. Armies were subdivided into phalanges, sections and sub-sections in charge of specific manoeuvres that serve the greatest mission of the army.
3. Material Perception of the World
Greek classical philosophers led the delivrance of 'Men' from pagan and irrational ways of seeing and explaining phenomenons taking place in the material sphere surrounding them.
Military expansions of Romans over huge areas of the Mediterranean, central and northern Europe put their hands on large human and material ressources which they utilised in creating real occasions for excellence to architects, designers/engineers and manual workers, in the forms of major civil and agricultural projects (--- military roads, bridges, protective walls, cities, ...). Those roman projects were magnificant examples in how human mind & force can be used usefully in responding to earthly necessities. In a earlier historical era, civilisations of Ancient Egypt and the Middle East implemented grand projects such as construction of palaces, temples and pyramides which, by their nature, were meant to serve kings and gods, not 'Men'.
4. In Arts
Greco-roman arts placed man, the pivot-element of the Universe, in his rightfully due (--- central) position. Even the pagan gods were made in the forms and images of Men.
In every domain, classical Greeks, Romans and Persians stood, then, as Great Models for other human societies; the coming of Abrahamic religions, mainly Christianity, interferred with that intention of Nature; Humankind was de-railed. Later northern indoeuropean societies (Germany, England, France) put us on the right way.
