Both father and mother families left smyrni in the destruction of '22. To which parts of Greece did your families go? My uncle's wife was from Turkey, although I'm not sure whether her family was refugees.

My father's side went to western pelloponisos where they, along with other refugees founded several villages in what used to be (and to some extend still is) the wonderful nothern coastline part of Hleia.
My mother's side disembarked near piraeus, not far from the island of salamis, where the mount ikonion (where xerxes had once set his throne to watch the naval battle) rolls down to meet saronikos gulf.

Geia sas patriotes!
I`m full-blooded Greek, born and living in Athens. My mother is born and raised on Samos island (eastern Aegean), where she has her roots too, as far as we know. My father is second generation Athenian but his paternal line originates on the Arcadia highlands too (central Peloponnese), while his mother is descended from an arbanite family of Tzia island (western Aegean).

Hello Everyone. My mother as well as her mother and father are from Nestani (Tsipiana), Arcadia. My father was born and raised in Perama, Piraeus. However, his father was born and raised in Kalithea (Kalabachtasi), Samos. His mother was born and raised in Artaki which is in Asia Minor on the Sea of Marmara. The town is called Erdek today. She fled from the Turks with her family in 1922. Eventually, the refugees founded the town of Nea Artaki in Evia where she settled until she married my Grandfather. We still have her house there and we go there every summer.

Hello Everyone. My mother as well as her mother and father are from Nestani (Tsipiana), Arcadia. Stavros Here in Chicago, IL, we have many Nestaniotes. They have a reputation for being in the restaurant business, and there was an article in the Chicago Tribune newspaper about Nestaniotes in Chicago, how they became successful in the U.S. and sent money back to Nestani to beautify the town. Many still call the town by its Turkish name, Tsipiana, especially older Greeks. My older family members still call their villages by their former Turkish names: Bosuna (Pelagos) and Besiri (Pallandion).

[Here in Chicago, IL, we have many Nestaniotes.]
That's right. I'm in Chicago also. In fact, at least half of the village is here! If not more!
Tsipiana changed it's name after the War of Independence. It was based on the the ancient village of Nestani of which there are still meager ruins. The tradition is that the Tsipianites are descended from the Ancient Mantineans who fled Mantinea after snakes overran the town and they founded Ancient Nestani.
Also, I made a mistake before. My grandmother was actually from the village of Katatopo which was very near to Artaki on the Cyzicus peninsula.
As I said before my grandfather was from Kalithea, Samos. However, our family name is Êü÷åéëáò and everyone i've ever known or met with this name was from Ikaria. I assume that it is possible that sometime in the past our family left Ikaria for Samos (although there is no recollection of this in our family). It would make sense because my grandfather's village is the westernmost village on Samos and directly across from Ikaria and Fournoi. Anyway, we still have an old house in Kalithea, but I have yet had a chance to go there. I am very much looking forward to going soon.
