Remember that picture of Bush when he was holding hands while walking with some Arab political figure I think he was from Kuwait or somewhere in that area.

I agree that Americans often view men kissing one another or holding hands as an automatic sign of homosexuality, though in certain cultures this is normal behavior. I do this with my family (kissing on the cheeks). I'd say it's more acceptable in the Mediterranean region and in the Middle East.

In the middle east I don't know if it's normal to hold hands and walk down the street like that lol, well not in Iraq at least, unless you see a father walking down with his 3 year old kid but this is with any other country lol.
Kisses on the cheeks however is very common, usually it's only 2 kisses (1 on each cheek), but sometimes it's 3 or 4 depending on the situation, like if you hav't seen your friend in a long time or if you're getting married or something like that you'll usually get more then 2 kisses from people you know well, hugging is also very normal there.

its just one of several and various ways people display affection when they meet. In the Middle East its a kiss on the cheeks, here its a handshake, the Innuits rub their noses together while the Maasai spit on you.

The Maasai showing affection by spitting reminds me of that scene in Ace Ventura 2 LOL.

In Poland, there is ritualized kissing: 3 kisses, finish on the cheek you start off. It can be between males who are good friends or family, no homosexuality is implied. In Chile, men never kiss each other. Someone stated that they thought there was a genetic component... Kissing is behavior, period. There are also patterns to handshaking. Americans only shake the first time they meet. Germans, Poles, or Chileans shake hands on every occasion that they meet this person.

In the U.S., the most common greeting for old friends who haven't seen one another is usually a hug accompanied by a few slaps on the back, a handshake, or both. Strangers shake hands, and of course when it comes to families, it's all hugs and kisses.

I remember an episode of the Sopranos where Tony and his crew go do some business in the old country and when they met these guys at the hotel they kissed each other on the cheek but you could tell Christopher was very uncomfortable kissing them by the expression on his face when he did it because he's only used to kissing men on the cheek who he considers like family to him and these guys were total strangers to him.

Cheek kissing is normal in Turkey too. But Turk nationalists prefer to make touch their heads to each other. I like it much than kissing a man
