Turkey is non-European and non-White. It has attempted to 'crash' the European party and now wants in. I'm afraid this 'child who plays poorly with others' (another being Germany) has its roots in Central Asia and the Middle East, not Europe.

As one BBC reporter commented in a bit of a Freudian slip: "Turkish entry into the EU would change the complexion of Europe." No kidding.

The east of the country, yes, the roots are mainly Middle Eastern with a Central Asian topping, as indicated by the Armenoid and Turanid elements. But the western part of the country is Dinaric and Pontic Mediterranean country, and is just a victim of geography. The people of western Turkey are akin to Europeans, and in my mind's eye, are basically Turkified Greeks.

Yes, western Turks look essentially like their European neighbors as they basically have the same ancestry (mostly Greek with some Roman, Thracian, and Slavic ancestry). Eastern Turks are more like their Persian neighbors (and to a lesser extent the Turkomans of Central Asia). Turkey's unique position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia has resulted in its being by far the most Westernized Middle Eastern nation. I don't see what the big deal is about Turkey joining the EU just because they happen to be Muslim or have certain ties to the Middle East.

That has no importance. Voters and politicians don't ponder over "racial & historical makeup of the Turkish nation". For many of them, Turks and Arabs are the same people.

If it's not a big deal, how about Turkey becoming the 51st state of America? ;)

If being of an another religion and having ties with a completely foreign (to Europe) and dangerous area is not a big deal, I wonder what could be a big deal.

Once I made to an American leftish professor who was bashing Europeans for their racist attitude toward Turkey the exact same Henerte's suggestion: why don't you take it as an American state?
He answered the issue for them was Mexico, and he seemed eager to prove they were more pc than us showing Americans are willing to admit Mexico as another USA's state. This rich professor actually was much more in favor of such joining than any Mexican I have ever heard on the subject, not to speak about Americans. I thought he was perfectly ready to favor any event, regardless of its actual consequences on real persons, as long as it satisfied his lust for assumed moral superiority.
Let's hope we can prevent our corrispondent eurocriminalpoliticians to create this historical monster and open borders with 50.000.000 muslims just to prove they are open minded.

Turks are more European than you are, considering that from what I understand, you have about 30% Mongol blood.

European is a geographical not a racial one. Turks are by definition not European.

Interestingly though, the part of Turkey bordering the Aegean has a population that is 6.7% Negroid and 13.3% Mongoloid patrilineally.

Religion & culture is one thing. But I believe that nobody will ever have any problems with Albania joining the EU.

What's more important is the size of Turkey and it's geopolitical situation.

By the time Turkey joins the EU, they will be the biggest country inside the EU with the most votes. There's a proposal of tying the number of votes not only with population of a given country but also with it's GDP. However I don't think that this change will ever be introduced.

Do you know any european who can imagine himself living in a country (UE) that borders with Iraq?

I will have to disagree with turkey joining the E.U.
First of all it is not a European country (geographicaly speaking ).If turkey joins,then..Moroco might want to join too!!...who would say no to them if the Europeans let a non-European country join the E.U.??
Turkey has to do something with the human rights issue. They are still governed by their army!!
Not to mention the violations of the Greek air space. They should be more friendly to their neighbours, especially the European ones! and leave aside all the "mucho" behaviour!
Their borders are not stable.Europe does not want unstable borders ( i think ).
Their economy sucks. We can not afford to "pay" for them!
I could state many more facts.
For the above reasons and for many more,i vote "no"!

I say NO to Turkiye in the E.U. only something like 10% of Turkiyes landmass is in Europe. It's ties racially and culturally are to asia and the middle-east and it should work with it's muslim brothers to create a strong and powerfull middle-east of a hundred flags rather then be the sick humilated dog of it's european masters :)
