 Veddas compared with Australian Aborigines
« Thread Started on Nov 6, 2005, 9:49pm »

Veddas from Sri Lanka (Weddids) compared with Australian Aborigines (Australids):

Quote:
Our initial comparisons have found the Vedda crania to be generally less robust than crania
from Australian Aboriginal series (see also Kaufmann 1973). Although several Vedda specimens
in the Basel collection do display some pronounced morphological developments these
tend not to be the same expressions that characterise Australian crania. For instance, even
when Vedda skulls have strongly developed glabella, superciliary ridges and zygomatic
trigone, they stand out as individual structures, unlike the tendency found on many Aboriginal
Australian crania for these features to grade together and so resemble a continuous supraorbital
torus. The Vedda crania are generally smaller than their Australian counterparts but with
greater development of the nuchal region and generally stronger parietal bossing. Many
Vedda crania display considerable development of the temporal crests but this would not be
unexpected of a (largely) hunter-gatherer population. The teeth are generally small and tend to
have medium rates of dental attrition, comparable to that described by Miles (1962) for early
Anglo-Saxons, suggesting a diet based on moderately processed foods.

No idea, hard to tell, he looks pred. Europid but with Australid features as well (2nd picture). European with Aboriginal blood?

from that link the second and third pics are interesting - the second one with the pyknomorphic child - suggestive of a primitivity relating to isolation instead of for example malnutrition - the third pic man of the left is indo melanid which tends to be a tall type, he is similar to the pic that Platypus posted - in this case the stature is very reduced, rather unusual and may be related to poor dietary conditions.

that's me and my bro - my father is a very robust ghondid telegu, he's brachid and broad nosed, broader, heavier in the face etc, my mother is keralite, she has this long 190 something mm head and looks rather narrow nosed, she's 4 inches taller than my dad, lol.

The two persons in the pictures don´t look Indian IMHO. Not sure if they are part aboriginal, though.

except for a few oddities here and there, these people are well proportioned - rather micromorphic people, some individuals are more elevated.

Have you other pictures, more normal ones, especially first without painting?
