1. Egypt 2. Greece 3. China 3. Mesopotamia
Actually, I think Mesopotamia would make a better third. Even though Chinese civ was spectacular it came about much later than Mesopotamia or Egypt, so it's a little less impressive. I guess they're tied for 3rd.

Hmmmm, probably greece and rome, third persia. Nubia actually did'nt have a bad run either. Out of all of those it was probably the longest lasting consecutively. From about 3100 b.c. to 1500, it out-beat egypt in that arena.
Nubia was one of those civilizations that kept to themselves, (like china) and did'nt really have any conquering ambitions, (besides 80 year rule of egypt). I wonder how world history would have played out differently had the nubians decided they wanted to start laying the smack down on other nations and starting empires just for the hell of it like the greeks or persians.
LOL a world ruled by "black" people in alternate history? It would make a fascinating novel.
Actually I know of one such novel, called "Zulu Heart":http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0446611956/qid=1111983160/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/103-7052733-2123816?v =glance&s=books&n=507846..... Interesting book

What are you talking about? Nubia never outdid Egypt in anything. Nubia was the Puerto Rico to Egypt's USA. That's the only analogy I can think of. Egypt had complete dominion over Nubia, Nubia was just a vassal of Egypt. Most of the country's gold went into Egyptian coffers. Keep in mind that Lower Nubia (Aswan to Abu Simbel) is now a part of Egypt, and was a basic part of Egypt for thousands of years. Nubian culture is basically an offshoot of the culture it adopted from Egyptian invaders. Nubia is not impressive by any stretch of the imagination.

Just like to know why Spiro has to swear in Slavic all the time and if it is allowed on this site. The graetest ancient civilisations were Sumer Egypt and China, with apologies to the Olmecs.

Why not include the civilisation we're living in right now? An age when man can not only fly to other countries, but also to outer-space. An age when man can recreate life, though not in the most ethical manner, an age when someone can dream a building and it can be created, an age where mathematics allows us to do what we're doing right now. We're living in the greatest civlisation of all time and it all comes from the industrial revolution!

I know I've posted this before but....Nubia was not just some offshoot carbon copy of Egypt, have you studied Nubian history other than knowing that Nubia was occupied by Egypt? Egypt also occupied Palestine and its adjacent areas but you say Egypt and Caanan had 'good' relations when in reality their relationship to Egypt was the same as Nubia's at various points in history. Most of Nubia's relationship to Egypt was one of trade, not one of submissive vassals.
Prehistoric Nubia
7000 B.C.-3100 B.C.
Near modern-day Khartoum is the oldest known record of settled African civilization. This civilization, called Khartoum Mesolithic culture (c 7000 B.C.), is noted for its settled way of life and pottery production that seemingly preceded agriculture, unlike development in early Near Eastern cultures. These early Nubians subsisted on hunting and fishing, but their remarkably sophisticated ceramics are among the oldest known. Fashioned from low-fired Nile mud and decorated with ompressed dots and wavy lines, this pottery dispersed throughout the African continent and remained unchanged for thousands of years. The earliest evidence from Egyptian civilization shows strong affinity with Khartoum Mesolithic (c. 6000 B.C.). Later (c. 4000-3500 B.C.) Predynastic Upper Egyptian and Lower Nubian materials are strikingly similar. Human figurines, cosmetic palettes, and black-topped red pottery were common to both cultures.
The A-Group 3100 B.C.-2800 B.C.
A-Group, Lower Nubia's earliest civilization, appeared around 3100 B.C., immediately preceding Egypt's unification. Although finely painted ceramics imitating basketry and a spectacular mace head with a gold handle were excavated from A-Group graves, this civilization was dismissed as a chiefdom of nomadic cattle herders.
Qustul's royal burial ground was excavated by the University of Chicago's expedition in the 1960s, and the large, rich graves of local kings were revealed. These contained Egyptian imports as well as local artifacts. Despite theories that Qustul's kingdom preceded the early Egyptian proto-states found at Nubt-Naqada and Nekhen-Hierakonpolis, all these states probably developed simultaneously, some with contacts with Syria Amuq Valley Mesopotamian civilization.
